How to Improve Your Credit Score
Secured Credit Cards:
A secured credit card is one where you deposit money into an account to secure the credit card.
Below are some secured and non-secured credit cards.
List of Secured Cards:
First Premier Bank: Call 800-283-8373 or
www.premiersecured.com
. Their unsecured card web-site is
www.firstpremier.com
Orchard Bank: Call 800-501-6125 or
www.orchardbank.com
Plains Commerce Bank: Visit their web-site at
www.plainscommerce.com
then click on “Personal Banking” at the toolbar at the top.
Note: All of these web-sites offer secured and unsecured credit cards. You may want to apply for an unsecured card first and if you are denied, apply for the secured card.
Everyone that is not currently in a bankruptcy will get a secured card but you typically have to put $200-$250 down to secure the card.
How to Use Your Credit Cards:
The best thing to do is to use the card at least every month and don’t put over $50 on the card during any one billing cycle. When you receive the statement, pay it off in full. If your balance goes to over 50% of the credit limit, this will lower your credit score.
If you are late on a payment, this will lower your score.
Important:
- Do not purchase a big-ticket item on credit such as a car, furniture, etc., before you close on your house as this can greatly lower the amount you qualify for.
- Do not quit or switch jobs before you close on your house without calling me first.
- Do not be late on any payments to any creditor!
